Rhys Stewart

Hi my name is Rhys, I'm an adventure seeker and triathlete in Perth, Western Australia. I got suckered into my first team half ironman at a Christmas party. That race was the Busselton 70.3 in May 2015. In 2016 I signed up for my first solo half ironman having never run more than 10kms in a single run.

Achievements

In 2019 I set myself the goal of qualifying for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2020. My greatest achievement was to achieve that in December 2019, earlier than planned at the Ironman 70.3 WA. With the COVID pandemic, the World Championships have been delayed until 2022. My goals now are to work on my two weaker legs, my running and cycling between now and then to show I didn't take that qualification by luck, I earned it with hard work and determination.

What Inspires You

Growth, commitment and seeing every day people push themselves to their athletic limits. There's no greater tear jerk than watching into the night as mums, dads and everyday people cross the finish line at an Ironman. It grabs me every time with what they've overcome and achieved in that moment and truly, what is my excuse?

Big Goals

The ultimate goal is to be able to combine my love of adventure and travel with endurance sports. To combine racing around the world with holidays.

Nutrition Tips

Hydrate and fuel not just for today's session, but for tomorrow's and the day after. Living an active lifestyle doesn't give you a free pass to eat junk food all the time. But the occasional treat won't derail a healthy diet. I love stopping for a coffee and cake during a big ride or finishing a big days training with a burger and a beer.
