Matt Snell

Hi I'm Matt. I'm an retired Aussie Rules Footballer who has found my way into Triathlon. I reside in the Perth Hills in Swan View, just up the road from Midland where I grew up. It is the perfect location as it is the gateway to endless trails to run on and every ride is a hills ride. The only downside is the lack of beaches. Fortunately there are a couple of pools nearby.

Achievements

I raced my first Ironman in December 2019 and just missed out on breaking the magical 10 hour barrier. Following an injury setback in 2020, I'm back on track and aiming to achieve that goal this December in Busselton.

What Inspires You

My inspiration has always been my Dad, who unfortunately lost his battle with cancer a few years back. He never took a backward step in his life and to see the way he fought to end the leaves me with no excuses than to get up and keep getting on with it.

Big Goals

Ultimately to break 10 hours for the Ironman.

Nutrition Tips

You need to listen to your body. If something doesn't work for you, don't keep doing it because that's what it says on the internet. I have found nutrition to be such an important part of triathlon, especially long course races ad the associated training. Food is fuel.
